Dubai Highway cars accident

March 17, 2008

A horrific vehicle pile-up on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai highway near Ghantoot – The 25km stretch of the UAE’s busiest highway-The crash happened because everyone was speeding despite the severe weather conditions.

Three people have been killed and 277 injured in the United Arab Emirates when dozens of cars and buses collided in thick fog in what could be the country’s biggest traffic accident, police said.

Up to 20 cars burned in the pile-up during the morning rush hour on the main motorway between the UAE trade hub of Dubai and the capital Abu Dhabi, police said. So many cars were hit that police had yet to count them all.

The death toll could rise as other casualties were in serious condition, at least one of them critical, police said. Pictures showed charred wrecks, broken glass and metal strewn across the road, which was blocked for most of the day as police and rescue workers evacuated casualties and removed cars. Television footage showed vehicles ablaze in the road.

The crash, which took place on a road where the speed limit is 120km/h, was made worse by the fact that several buses carrying labourers to work were on the road.

Police said 12 buses carrying some 300 workers in total were involved in the crash, which took place at 1pm (AEDT) Wednesday March 12, 2008

(6am local time).

5 Minute Management Course

March 17, 2008

Lesson 1:
A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings.
The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs.
When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbor.
Before she says a word, Bob says, ‘I’ll give you $800 to drop that towel.’
After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob, after a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves.
The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs.
When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, ‘Who was that?’
‘It was Bob the next door neighbor,’ she replies.
‘Great,’ the husband says, ‘did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?’

Moral of the story:
If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure.

Lesson 2:
A priest offered a Nun a lift..
She got in and crossed her legs, forcing her gown to reveal a leg.
The priest nearly had an accident.
After controlling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg.
The nun said, ‘Father, remember Psalm 129?’
The priest removed his hand. But, changing gears, he let his hand slide up her leg again.
The nun once again said, ‘Father, remember Psalm 129?’
The priest apologized ‘Sorry sister but the flesh is weak.’
Arriving at the convent, the nun sighed heavily and went on her way.
On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129. It said, ‘Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory.’

Moral of the story:
If you are not well informed in your job, you might miss a great opportunity.

Lesson 3:
A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp.
They rub it and a Genie comes out.
The Genie says, ‘I’ll give each of you just one wish..’
‘Me first! Me first!’ says the admin clerk. ‘I want to be in the Bahamas , driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.’
Puff! She’s gone.
‘Me next! Me next!’ says the sales rep. ‘I want to be in Hawaii , relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.’
Puff! He’s gone.
‘OK, you’re up,’ the Genie says to the manager.
The manager says, ‘I want those two back in the office after lunch.’

Moral of the story:
Always let your boss have the first say.

Lesson 4
An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing.
A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, ‘Can I also sit like you and do nothing?’
The eagle answered: ‘Sure, why not.’
So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Lesson 5
A turkey was chatting with a bull.
‘I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree’ sighed the turkey, ‘but I haven’t got the energy.’
‘Well, why don’t you nibble on some of my droppings?’ replied the bull. They’re packed with nutrients.’
The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree.
The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch.
Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree.
He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.

Moral of the story:
Bull Shit might get you to the top, but it won’t keep you there..
Lesson 6
A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field.
While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.
As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was.
The dung was actually thawing him out!
He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy..
A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate.
Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Morals of the story:
(1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.
(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.
(3) And when you’re in deep shit, it’s best to keep your mouth shut!

Pee Powered Batteries On Sale in Japan

March 15, 2008

as weird as it might sound it’s completely true. it went for testing at first and became reality at the moment.

To make the battery, Lee and his colleagues soaked a piece of paper in a solution of copper chloride and sandwiched it between strips of magnesium and copper. This sandwich was then laminated between two sheets of transparent plastic.

When a drop of urine is added to the paper through a slit in the plastic, a chemical reaction takes place that produces electricity.

The prototype battery produced about 1.5 volts, the same as a standard AA battery, and runs for about 90 minutes. Researchers said the power, voltage, and lifetime of the battery can be improved by adjusting the geometry and materials used.

Urine contains many ions (electrically charged atoms), which allows the electricity-producing chemical reaction to take place in the urine battery. Other bodily fluids, such as tears, blood, and semen, would work easily as well to activate the battery.

NoPoPo (Non-Pollution Power) Aqua Batteries are available in both AA and AAA form, although the company page shows they are producing the technology for all sizes of battery, and can only be currently purchased in Japan.

The batteries can be recharged with various different fluids using the new development which forms electric power using liquid as a catalyst.

The basic principle is that a mixture of magnesium and carbon reacts when mixed with a liquid to produce, in the case of the AA battery, up to 500 milliamp-hours (mAh) of life.

Each time the battery is recharged it has a lower power level than the time before and the life cycle allows for about 3 to 5 recharges before disposing of the battery. Each battery can potentially keep its charge for up to 10 years which could be great for many life saving devices in remote locations.

Since the battery does not contain mercury and other harmful materials, it can be easily disposed of without worry for the environment.

So the next time your batteries let you down, just pee on them. (*Will probably help if they are produced by NoPoPo.)

March 12, 2008

you do enjoy watching DVDs on your PC, what about those other formats that you download and doesn’t have any subtitles.
believe me for some time i tried to search for subtitles manually which i found very frustrating that you cant find the exact match for you video and end up with the text delayed or too early in the scenes, might even try edit the text contained in the subtitle file to sync it with the video. the best thing about this application is that no matter what name you give to your video, It uses a special hash function to identify the video file and search them into a online server which gives the subtitles. not to mention the variety of languages you get depending your video.

SubDownloder

all you’ll  need to do is to upload your video into the application and in a matter of seconds it search’s for subtitles in different languages with ratings to choose from. enjoy 🙂

How to download files using torrents?

March 8, 2008

i was with a friend the other day who needed to get a software, i suggested to him that he downloads it from the internet using torrents, as it’s available and free. but apparently he didn’t know what i was talking about. wasn’t the only person. so i thought of why not making a simple introductory tutorial, and i hope it helps.

1. First, you’ll need to download and  install one of the many torrent client softwares available on the internet such as BitTorrent or Azureus .. etc. for this tutorial im going to refer to Azureus as it’s what im currently using

2. after having it successfully installed, run the program and leave it. As most of the time it might be running in the background. (make sure it’s not blocked by your windows or any firewall)

3. at this step you’re ready to download, usually you can’t search for files using the software itself, and you’ll need to go to one of many torrents websites  such as torrentspy, isohunt, mininova… and search for the file you want.

4. upon finding the file, what you have to look for is 2 things, seeders and leaches. Seeders are the people who had the file completed on their PC, and leaches are those who are still downloading. and of course the bigger the number of people downloading the faster you can download.

5. if you choose a file with a high number of downloaders, find the downloading link and press it. wait for a few seconds (if promoted to open using a software, choose the torrents client you have installed)

now you can enjoy downloading files as large as you want. for advanced users you can create your own torrents files and upload them to the internet.

What’s torrents share anyway?
A popular file sharing service developed by Bram Cohen that prevents people from downloading constantly unless they are willing to share in the overall transmission load on the network. Instead of downloading an entire file, BitTorrent breaks a file into chunks and distributes them among several participating users.

What’s the difference between other P2P share and torrents?
When you download a “torrent,” you are also uploading it to another user. BitTorrent balances the load because broadband download and upload speeds are not the same. Users download files faster than they can upload them, which makes them less interested in sharing bandwidth to upload to someone else. BitTorrent ensures every user participates in uploading. and for downloading you don’t have to wait to get it from sources who have completed the entire file, torrents helps you to download from people who haven’t complete downloading.

Note: download at your own risk, the publisher is not responsible for any damages caused by downloading or viruses, or any copyrights issues.

The God of Small Things

March 8, 2008

The God of Small Things

Traveling is what brings me to read a little, this time it was an interesting pick in fact, the author herself is an architect, worked as a production designer and written two screenplays. It’s amazingly her first book as well. In an astonishing literately novel she tells a story of a twin, Rahel and Estha. Which Feels as watching a motion picture than just reading through, she has an amazing way of taking you into these little kids brains, living and experiencing what they truly go through. It goes backwards from sorting the incidents only then to tell you how they happened and what they’ve gone through. A tragedy their life is, from a crucial environment to their own family at their own home.

gonnato read it again 🙂

MacBook Air, what you see isn’t exactly what you get.

February 27, 2008

Meet the MacBook Air, the newest entry to Apple’s laptop line.

Its not exactly the ultimate laptop everybody’s expecting, Apple call it the thinnest (available in market today) but not the thinnest of all time. An absolutely revolutionary to make a the new MacBook Air fits into the a paper file with an extraordinary design and engineering.

well, it might be the choice for travelerrs who want minumum weight, least connectivity and resonable performance. so what doesn this newally invested laptop has most others don’t

– it comes with a light sensor that respose to the room light and adjust the screen brightness accordingly.
– a smarter touch-pad,  reasonably large enough for new gestures. ordinary touch pads let use two fingers t scroll up and down, but the MacBook Air allows the use of three fingers for go forward and backward in a web browser for instance. the new touch pad is in fact developed from the iPhone with the iPhone’s Multi Touch Chip.

so what’s missing in the MacBook Air

– Connection, Apple went far by removing most connection port, and limtting it to only a standard speaker/headphone minijack, a USB 2.0 port, and a micro-DVI port. and thats all. It would be a trouble for multi USB ports users, so you’ll have to use a bluetooth mouse and Wi-Fi internet.
– No Optical Drive, so how to watch movies or Install software? Apple assumes that you have another PC at home and able to use the network for that.
– A user replaceable battery, which for some users carrying an extra battery is essential for traveling  incase one ran out.

Apple MacBook Air ports

What about the Price?

Although you can configure some additional options, the base 1.6GHz model costs $1,799, $300 more than the top-of-the-line 2.2 GHz black MacBook, and $200 less than the low-end 2.2GHz 15-inch MacBook Pro. Or you can go wild and configure yourself an ultimate MacBook Air for $3,098—almost $300 more than the 2.8GHz 8-core Mac Pro. (Most of that extra cost comes from one particular hard drive option—more on that shortly).
